You might notice that your child does things at school that they don’t do at home. At school, they may put on their coat or even hang it up without help. They go to the bathroom without asking the teacher to accompany them.
When your child gets home, sometimes they demand that you do all of these things for them. Teachers have a secret to getting kids to be more independent. The secret is to simply ask your child if they want you to help them hang up their coat or put it on, or if you need to accompany them to the bathroom. When given the choice, most will always choose independence. Practice asking these questions and you’ll see that your child becomes more independent at home.
