Transitional Kindergarten Program

Our Transitional Kindergarten program is thoughtfully designed to bridge early childhood education and Kindergarten expectations. Through engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction, students build the academic, social, and emotional foundations needed for a confident transition to kindergarten.

We utilize the Frog Street Curriculum to support whole-child growth, integrating social-emotional development, literacy, math, science, and motor skills into daily learning experiences.

Literacy Development

Builds recognition of upper- and lower-case letters
Develops proper letter formation using developmentally appropriate instruction
Strengthens letter-sound correspondence and early blending skills
Introduces a wide range of age-appropriate literature, poetry, and informational texts
Teaches concepts of print, including parts of a book (title, author, illustrator)
Develops phonological awareness through rhyming activities and word play

Social Skills & Independence

Develops problem-solving skills in social situations
Strengthens emotional self-regulation and appropriate language use
Fosters teamwork, collaboration, and positive peer relationships
Encourages independence in classroom routines and task completion
Teaches kindness, empathy, respect, and cooperation within the classroom community

Math Development

Builds number sense and rote counting skills up to 100
Develops number recognition from 1–50
Explores patterns, sorting, and introductory graphing
Practices counting by 5s and 10s
Introduces even and odd numbers
Explores positional and spatial concepts (top, middle, bottom, first, last, above, below)
Introduces basic addition and subtraction using concrete manipulatives
Provides early exposure to money concepts through hands-on activities

STEM Exploration

Engages students in hands-on STEM activities integrating science, technology, engineering, and math
Encourages inquiry-based learning through hypothesizing, testing, observing, and recording results
Develops mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills
Introduces basic physics concepts such as gravity and balance
Designs and constructs three-dimensional structures using a variety of materials
Builds and tests car ramps, boats that float, and functional designs such as basketball hoops
Conducts interactive science experiments, including volcano creation and other hands-on investigations

Structured Phonics & Reading Program

Implements a structured phonics program to build strong foundational reading skills
Develops phonemic awareness, phonetic letter sounds, and sound blending
Progresses students toward early reading and introduction of key sight words
Provides individualized instruction in one-on-one or small-group settings
Engages students with hands-on phonics games, sorting activities, and phonetic songs
Utilizes a multisensory approach to support diverse learning styles
Delivered by teachers who receive specialized training for effective implementation

Handwriting & Fine Motor Development

Implements the award-winning Handwriting Without Tears program
Uses multisensory strategies to strengthen handwriting skills
Builds hand dexterity, strength, and endurance
Develops proper pencil grip through coloring, drawing, and writing
Supports early sentence formation and writing fluency
